A
Look Back at 2013 to Date as the Super Cup Season Nears Conclusion
The Super Cup Stock
Car Series gets an extra week off before making their annual trip to
Midvale Speedway in Ohio, but many teams will not be resting during
the additional down time.
Point
leader Todd Peck is one of the drivers who will be racing between
events as the Keith Wolfe led crew prepares their NASCAR Camping
World truck for its second start of the season which will take place
at Pocono Raceway in their home state of Pennsylvania.
Peck has used consistency, a win at CNB Bank Raceway Park and
a few lucky inverts to get to the lead after the first five races.
Second place in
points Jim Crabtree Jr. from Muncie, Indiana has had an up and down
season, starting off with a win at Shenandoah followed by a wrecked
race car at Columbus, but comes into the next race with momentum off
a win last time out. The
Crabtree racing family has been busy at work getting their super
late model ready for such high level races later in the season as
the Winchester 400. Jim’s
sons J.P. and Jaren have been busy as well.
J.P. helped out with the Eddie Van Meter effort in the recent
Red Bud 300 super late model race as well as coached his race day
spotter and younger brother Jaren to Champ Kart victories at their
local dirt track. J.P.
currently sits fifth in the standings after four straight top five
finishes.
Kevin Kromer has
been the most consistent competitor among the Super Cup regulars
with top five finishes in all five starts, but has yet to break
through for his first win of the season.
Kromer and crew have been working at the shop to change that
and challenge Peck and Crabtree for the championship.
In addition, Kromer has been assisting son Aaron with his
street stock effort at Mahoning Valley Speedway nearby their home of
Walnutport, Pennsylvania.
The Harrison family
may be the ones that are most thankful for the extra week off.
All four failed to finish the race at their home track at Ona
Speedway. Three-time
defending series champion Jody Harrison still sits fourth in points
only 74 points back and will have the car ready to go in an attempt
for another win in Ohio after claiming the rain shortened Columbus
race in June.
The wild card in
the field could be J.J. Pack from Bealeton, Virginia.
The Cal Richardson owned #3 has only made two appearances so
far this year, but results were a win and second place finish during
the Pennsylvania doubleheader weekend at Motordrome Speedway and CNB
Bank Raceway Park. After
discovering an issue with the transmission prior to Ona, the team
should have things resolved in time for Midvale.
Thanks to sponsor
Boschett Timepieces, drivers in the series can be proud owners of a
trophy unique to the series. Owner
Keith Boschetti presented the current top four in points as well as
series regular Harvey Harrison with a custom made Super Cup Stock
Car Series race winner timepiece following the season finale in
2012. J.P. Crabtree III
also received a watch for being 2012’s rookie of the year.
Although the driver
may not be seen wearing their watches on race day, it remains an
additional incentive to be recognized as a race winner at season’s
end and the former winners can be easily identified at the track
with a Boschett Timepieces decal across the top of their windshield.
More information about the New York based company can be seen
at www.boschett-timepieces.com.
It remains to be
seen who combines for the most work off the track and best luck on
the track during the last couple races, but the first five races
have set up quite the battle to the finish.
