Putnam
County Bank Twin 40s Will Feature Multiple Generations, Home State
Drivers, and New Visitors to Ona Speedway
Statesville,
North Carolina (September 9, 2026) – After recent
postponements and cancellations, Super Cup Stock Car Series
competitors are more than itching for a return to the racing
surface. West
Virginia’s only asphalt short track seems like an optimal location
for that to occur this weekend.
Ona Speedway has
presented excitement for fans throughout much of the entire 19-year
history of the SCSCS. Last
year was no different in its comeback to the schedule after a dozen
season layoff when “ShoTime” Mike won both races, each with
differing receptions from the crowd.
One past winner at
the facility and a two-time series champion is truly looking forward
to his first visit to the historic 7/16-mile oval since last
competing there in a Late Model nearly 10 years ago.
Harvey Harrison, who also holds a track title when he raced
there on a weekly basis, utilized patience in an entertaining
100-lap SCSCS main event on a summer night in 2012.
A year later was a little more forgetful in his final-to-date
Ona appearance with the series but was also memorable with two of
his sons and his nephew in the field with him.
That family aspect
once again comes to a special forefront where three generations are
scheduled to be in competition against each other for the first time
in series history.
“We
do have a lot of work to do,” Harvey Harrison indicated way back
on June 20th, the most recent date in which everyone with the series
was together at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina
where his ride departed with some damage.
“(Grandson) Logan and (son) Brian have been working late at
night on these cars. They
are really dedicated and giving it all they’ve got.
Now we’ve got a third car we have to do some work on so
it’s going to be a busy month off.”
Logan Harrison
plans to make his series debut after a successful test session at
Franklin County Speedway in Virginia where he ran approximately 100
laps. He has been eager
to get take the green flag for quite some time now at a track on
Saturday in which he also participated in an open practice session
the day before the series was originally scheduled to come out to
Ona on August 1st.
“I’ve grown up
around this series my whole life and I think it’s going to be
really cool if we can get three generations running together,” the
Renick, West Virginia teenager also stated after the night at Orange
County.
Logan’s dad Brian
Harrison has not taken a green flag since the season opener at
Shenandoah Speedway in April but plans on bringing out a newly
prepared car at a track in which he got his driving start in a Late
Model years back.
“It’s
definitely a unique racetrack,” the veteran of 82 SCSCS starts
with an Ona best of fifth described.
“It’s not conventional, but it’s a lot of fun.
It’s a lot of slipping and sliding there, but I heard they
repaved parts of it so it may be different now.
I haven’t been there since.”
There are
additional home state drivers eagerly awaiting Saturday.
Eric Barber finished third in the 2025 standings but has not
returned to the driver seat at all in 2026.
That should change as the resident from only two hours away
in Parkersburg, West Virginia climbs back behind the wheel.
Larry Frame is
fresh off a fourth place run at Orange County, matching his series
best results, including once last year at Ona.
With family and friends expected to be in attendance, the
Yellow Spring driver is getting into more of a rhythm when it comes
to consistent and faster lap times.
Much of that has been through additional guidance received
from Petersburg competitor Brent Nelson, who blew a motor while
having a strong run in the 2025 event and for unrelated reasons
unfortunately will not be able to make the trip on Saturday, as well
as Brent’s brother Rocky Nelson.
Last
for now; however, certainly not least is the series point leader and
a teammate of hers. Chrissy
Wallace has never stepped foot on the grounds of the multi-purpose
property that is shared with a private airstrip and RC flying field
but is on a four-race winning streak heading into the weekend.
She has been
leaning on Harvey Harrison much like he has with her for tips on
navigating the tricky configurations they have each visited this
year for the first time.
“Ona is a flat
track,” Harvey Harrison added.
“It’s going to take a little different setup, but we’re
all really looking forward to it.”
Pit gates open at
1:00 p.m. with the first of two 15-minute practice sessions for the
SCSCS Gen-4 style machines beginning the afternoon festivities at
2:00. Qualifying gets
underway around 4:15 p.m.
Grandstand gates
officially swing open for the RECO Products Kids Night at 5:00 p.m.
with general admission on Saturday for only $15 and ages 12 and
under admitted for free.
National Anthem and
Juice Box features for the kids take place right before racing
begins at 6:30 p.m. The
first of the Putnam County Bank twin 40-lap main events for the
Super Cup Stock Car Series starts off a packed program that includes
seven local divisions additionally joining in on a night of fun.
Following the first
race, an autograph session in the general admission area will
include Chrissy along with her dad and SCSCS Hickory winner Mike
Wallace as well as fellow past NASCAR star Jeremy Mayfield.
Mayfield is also intending on competing in the races.
In the five-time NASCAR Cup Series winner’s previous outing
at Carteret County Speedway in early June, the Owensboro, Kentucky
driver won the Pole Award and finished runner-up in both races.
