Another
Sweep for Wallace in SCSCS Inaugural Orange County Appearance
Rougemont, North
Carolina (June 21, 2026) –
For the second consecutive Super Cup Stock Car Series event, it was
not Chrissy Wallace top of the boards at the beginning of the day,
but in the hunt and the key player once the green and checkered
flags unfurled.
Harvey Harrison
topped the practice charts in his No. 35 John 3:16 Ford during his
first visit to Orange County Speedway since assisting his brother
Joe Harrison Jr.’s efforts in what was then the NASCAR Busch
Series in the 1980s. At
the conclusion of the drivers meeting, the Renick, West Virginia
competitor was then recognized for making his 100th career SCSCS
start, becoming the fourth driver to reach such an elite club.
A future release will further detail this accomplishment by
the two-time series champion.
The
trend of differing Pole Award drivers and cars continued into a
fifth race weekend of 2026. “ShoTime”
Mike scored his second career feat with a best of time of 15.449
seconds. The pilot of
the No. 23 QuicShine99 / ShoTime Motorsports Chevrolet would draw
the ensuing number one pill to start out front in the first of twin
50-lap main events.
An intense opening
lap saw Damian Payton gain a slight advantage exiting the first pair
of 19-degree banked corners, but it was the No. 19 Dan Althoff
Trucking / JDH Engineering / J4 Truss / The Also-Ran Broadcast / CP
Race Wear / MW Pressure Washing / D2 Motorsports Ford driven by
Chrissy Wallace who made a daring move from the third starting
position to go inside for the top spot entering turn three and
coming back to the stripe.
From there, Wallace
went unchallenged, aside from the hot weather conditions and the sun
glare limiting the view in the final turns across the distance,
coming away with her third consecutive win and fifth total of 2026.
“ShoTime” Mike eventually worked his way by Payton for
second, cut the margin that
was
once more than five seconds in half, but had to settle for a
runner-up result without any yellow flags bunching the field
together.
Harrison’s fast
performance was limited to a fourth-place outcome due to a tire
slowly going flat. Perhaps
the best battle of the entire race occurred for fifth between
Petersburg, West Virginia’s Brent Nelson in the No. 80 Precision
Auto Collision / JEBCO / RAM Trucking / QH Design / Nelson
Motorsports Chevrolet and Dylan Godinez who resides only couple
hours away in Conover, North Carolina driving the No. 57 Ashton
Racing Chevrolet. They
dueled lap after lap with Nelson ultimately finishing in the top
five.
Unfortunately,
neither Nelson due to overheating concerns, nor Godinez with an
electrical issue attempting to roll out of the pits, would be able
to make the start for the second race.
For
that green flag, Wallace redrew the number one to start at the front
and accelerated to the lead immediately.
Outside of her though, Harrison ended up spinning the tires
initially, connecting with Payton’s ride and ending up backing
into the wall in turn one. Payton
came to pit road to fix some damage as well, putting “ShoTime”
Mike in second for the next start.
Payton, who lives
only 80 miles out in Winston-Salem, worked his car back by
“ShoTime” Mike and set his sights on Wallace when another yellow
flew for debris on lap nine. On
the restart, “ShoTime” Mike managed to get to the front and led
a lap, but Wallace and Payton would go back by the next time around.
For the next 20 or
so circuits, Payton in the No. 64 Fauquier Stitch Studio / Donovan
Asphalt Paving / Total Stormwater Solutions LLC / Blue Ridge Seafood
Restaurant / McElligott Performance & Design / J&K Grounds
Maintenance Chevrolet searched high and low to find a way by Wallace
from Concord,
North
Carolina. During a
couple instances it was close quarters for the top spot before
Payton slightly lost ground and later spun on his own, setting up a
12-lap dash to the finish.
“ShoTime Mike”
and Payton kept things close; however, it was Wallace keeping the
lead for another evening sweep with her dad Mike Wallace on the
radio as spotter on Father’s Day Weekend.
“The car came in
really good and then the second race, Damian was, I don’t know,
after the first two laps it was almost like he got go-go gadget
motor and his tires he could run any line,” Wallace observed.
“I felt like we were a little bit stronger on the low line
and we could get past him. For
one, I have to give him credit.
Thank you so much to Damian for respecting me and racing me
super clean. There were
multiple times I knew he could have turned me.
I enjoy racing with him and I’m sure if it went 10 more
laps he would have been right back up there.”
“ShoTime” Mike
held off Payton to finish second once again.
Yellow Spring, West Virginia’s Larry Frame tied his best
career effort of fourth in his first starts with the series since
Shenandoah in April in the No. 80x Precision Auto Collision /
Riverside Auto Parts / Nelson Motorsports Chevrolet.
Harrison ultimately fell off the pace as a result of
impairment to his machine from earlier but was still credited with
fifth in the final order.
Both podium
finishers had a few comments about their night as well as the winner
from their own perspective.
“My night was
pretty good,” the Denver, North Carolina driver recapped.
“I raced with some good Super Cup stock cars.
The one that beat us, not a Super Cup car.
I’m happy and my car is going home in one piece.
I did bounce it off the wall in the first race.
My fault, pushing it too hard, but all in all it isn’t torn
up. I feel bad for
Harvey and those guys. Maybe
we’ll get some things straightened out around here and it will be
a little more fun.”
Payton stopped once
more for adjustments during the last yellow in a final attempt to
move up from his third-place restart position.
“It’s crazy we
were as fast as we were because we had a parachute on the right
side. It sucks to get
torn up that bad any weekend, but glad we were able to push through
it, make some headway, and actually be competitive and challenge for
the lead. Made some
adjustments throughout and made it better.
I gave it everything I had.
Tried running the bottom, the top, trying to cross her up,
and all kinds of stuff. Got
squeezed to the wall once I did get to the outside and couldn’t do
anything from there.”
Wallace now holds a
commanding 150-point lead in the season-long race for the SCSCS
championship. There will
be more than a month off for competitors to regroup and turn focus
to the next event, a return for a second straight year to Ona
Speedway on Saturday, August 1st as part of the Putnam County Bank
Throwback Classic.
During the break
there will be stories recapping the first half of the season and
