SCSCS Racers to Undertake Orange County Speedway for First Time Prior to Brief Summer Break

Statesville, North Carolina (June 17, 2026) – It has been quite the early ride to start off 2026 for the Super Cup Stock Car Series with four events and seven races all being graced with glorious weather conditions in a span of nine weeks.  Two more races at yet another new location for a majority of the competitors will pose quite the entertaining evening for fans in the Piedmont region this Saturday.

Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina will be presenting “Dad Day at the Speedway” as part of Father’s Day weekend in which all dads get into the spectator gates for a discounted rate of $15.  Originally on the property of a dirt oval built in the early 1960s, the current layout was configured in 1983 and has hosted numerous touring series over the recent decades, including what is now the NASCAR O’Reilly Series.

Known as “America’s Fastest 3/8-Mile Track”, wide and sweeping corners with multiple grooves across the steep 19-degree banking as well 16 degrees on the straightaways will present intense jockeying for every position possible.  In a flip of the switch where the first couple events were surfaces that the current points leader had never raced, this will be the third consecutive venue in which Chrissy Wallace has been before with moderate past success.

“I ran there a couple times for Robbie Hamke (son of the late and noted car builder Robert Hamke) in a Late Model,” the Concord, North Carolina driver indicated.  “Didn’t sit on the pole and didn’t win, but the best finish we wound up with there was third.”

Wallace, who collected both checkered flags two weeks back at Carteret County Speedway, added her thoughts on strategy and positive predictions.

“Another one of those tracks that saving your tires and not driving over your head is something you’ve got to be smart at.  It’s going to be another good one.  Definitely feel like at Orange County we can run side by side and I’m sure with Damian (Payton) and Harvey (Harrison) we’ll all be battling.”

This will be the third new track in a row for Damian Payton, who will be making the short 80-mile commute from his garage in Winston-Salem.

“It’s a lot closer to home, so I’m looking forward to it,” the current runner-up in points with one victory in 2026 expressed.  “I don’t really know what to expect there, but we’re going to bring everything we’ve got.”

It will be a milestone reached for third in points Harvey Harrison.  The two-time series champion from Renick, West Virginia makes his 100th career start in the first of twin races and will be joined by top five points drivers, fellow Mountain State past champion Brent Nelson loaded for bear and North Carolina resident Dylan Godinez also expected in the mix.

Another home state competitor motivated to contend is “ShoTime” Mike, a Pole Award and twice a race winner in 2025, making his second appearance of the year.  More participants such as West Virginia’s Larry Frame are planning to be back in action with additional drivers, a few of whom might have prior experience at OCS, intending to make preparations to be ready for Saturday.  In all, there will be little room for error with one of if not the largest fields anticipated of 2026.

An optional early practice will be held at the cost of $25 per car from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. on race day with the first of two official rotating sessions beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Grandstands for the facility easily accessible from Southern Virginia, Triad and Research Triangle Park as well as the hub of stock car racing in North Carolina will swing open at 5:30 p.m.  Qualifying takes place during the 6:00 p.m. hour and racing commences at 7:00 p.m. with Vintage Sportsman, Chargers, Pure Stocks, Late Model Stock Cars, and Mod 4s also in competition in addition to the races for the Super Cup Stock Car Series.

General admission is $20 with seniors admitted for $15 and children 10 and under only $2.
