Veterans Classic “Part 2” Trophy
Recipient and 2025 SCSCS Champion to be Decided at Shenandoah
Statesville,
North Carolina (October 1, 2025)
– A season filled with peaks and valleys, not only geographically,
but when it comes to circumstances of the unpredictable nature for
both event and series operations as well as competitors leads to
Saturday, October 4th.
Shenandoah Speedway
hosts Twin 35s for the Super Cup Stock Car Series with the first
race awarding the second Veterans Classic trophy for 2025, carried
over from August 30th. The
second main event will then determine the champion and other
positioning within the top 10 in points, which will each be
celebrated as part of the post-season awards and trophy
presentations immediately following.
One
driver that has not seen many valleys is point leader going in,
Mitch Gibson. His only
time not running at the finish was during the opening weekend at
Kingsport Speedway back in April.
Since then, the driver in his first full season with the
SCSCS has completed every lap, notching two victories and three
poles in the process. A
good run for Gibson to start off the evening could easily clinch the
title; however, it would not be surprising to see him go for another
win close to his Weyers Cave, Virginia home.
Two
competitors that are rather eager to end the regular season with a
peak are second and third in points.
Brent Nelson was nearly unstoppable in 2024, winning on five
occasions including three times at Shenandoah, but mechanical woes
have sidelined the Petersburg, West Virginia driver the last two
events. He returns with
the “ol’ faithful” black car that won those aforementioned
races and a rebuilt motor.
Eric Barber had
high hopes going into Shenandoah more than a month ago, climbing
into the car that won both races at Ona Speedway.
Unfortunately, his race was over before it really got going,
but showed promising speed that
had
him crack the top five at the time his night went sour.
The Parkersburg, West Virginia resident will look to wrap up
his first full year in the series on a high note.
Meanwhile, there
are three more drivers with a chance at being in the top five in the
final standings. Uniontown,
Pennsylvania’s Bill Ashton has achieved a top five finish each
time in his limited appearances behind the wheel in 2025, including
his most recent 100th career start, and ranks second in laps
completed. Larry Frame
from Yellow Spring, West Virginia started off the season not on the
best foot but has brought his ride to the checkered flag each time
in the last three races and is currently sixth in points.
Damian
Payton has the least mathematical shot at making it in, seventh in
the standings at the moment. Nevertheless,
the Winston-Salem, North Carolina’s performances have been
noticeable with a runner-up at Lonesome Pine and a third last time
out at what was previously his home track of Shenandoah.
Then there are
those searching to potentially find their way into the final top 10
for the first time. Rob
Hindt from Elkton, Maryland tied his best career finish of fifth,
originally set 10 years ago, when the series was at the 3/8-mile
progressively banked oval last time.
He will look to match or better that result
this
time. Dylan Godinez made
his stock car debut on that same weekend and brought the car home in
one piece. The Conover,
North Carolina racer has working been hard to improve upon what he
has learned since that seventh-place finish.
Joining the party
are at least a couple first-timers for 2025.
One of them will be the return of Jones Motorsports to the
SCSCS for the first time since 2019 with “Jet Daddy” Toby
Blanton from Brooks, Georgia making his first start.
Spectator gates
will open at 3:30 p.m. with qualifying beginning shortly thereafter.
Racing festivities,
including the main events for the Super Cup Stock Car Series, are
scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
Shenandoah Speedway will also be crowning their 2025
champions with twin races for Bandoleros, twins for Legends, and a
Stock 4 main event as well as hosting another bike race for kids.
