Statesville, North Carolina (August 27, 2025) – The start of Labor Day Weekend will be about honoring veterans and additionally in appreciation of all the fans in attendance.  The Super Cup Stock Car Series was originally scheduled to run the annual RealFast.TV Veterans Classic at Shenandoah Speedway in mid-July, but when rain canceled those plans this year’s always prestigious running of that portion of the event was pivoted to Saturday, August 30th.

Already on the agenda, in celebration of the northern Virginia facility being in operation for 20 years, is a fan appreciation extravaganza with free general admission for everyone making the turn off route 340 and drive down Precision Road.  A meet and greet with competitors, including the largest turn out of SCSCS racers expected over the last couple years, will combine for a memorable evening for all.

Two drivers, one being their current home track and another being where they got their start in racing, competed in Legends cars at the progressively-banked 3/8-mile.  Points leader Mitch Gibson now calls Weyers Cave, Virginia home and most recently his son Caliph won his first four-cylinder main event there.  Coming off a couple more respectable top five results last time out at Ona Speedway, Gibson has been making preparations and consulting with others, such as successful past Pro Cup and NASCAR Truck Series driver Caleb Holman, to find the most speed he can out of his machine.

Anticipating this homecoming for a long time, Damian Payton returns after a runner-up performance at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park in June.  Currently residing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Payton achieved top five finishes at Shenandoah nearly a decade back and looks forward to reconnecting with local fans and perhaps securing one of the special trophies awaiting the winners of the twin 50-lap races.

Brent Nelson from Petersburg, West Virginia sits third in the standings after capturing the title in 2024.  He will look to turn around his season and possibly make up some ground at a track in which he has won five times.  Teammate Larry Frame is coming off a season-best fifth earlier in the month and comes back to the facility that he used to race at regularly for a couple years.

Additional drivers that call the commonwealth home will be on hand.  Michelle Sabatula is slated to make her series debut, splitting driving duties with Jeff Thomas, both of which are from Gloucester, Virginia.  The Thomas Racing Team has not competed in the SCSCS since the 2023 finale, also at Shenandoah.  2014 champion JJ Pack challenged for the win at Ona in his Mark Martin replica scheme and is making the short trek west from the town of Midland with two cars, another a Kyle Petty lookalike with Maryland’s Rob Hindt behind the wheel.

Among those representing Pennsylvania, Mike Senica is back for the first time since the May rainout at Lonesome Pine.  The Warrington driver scored a podium run in one of the races at Shenandoah last year.

Runner-up in the championship at the moment, “ShoTime” Mike, earlier in the week officially announced he will be stepping out from driving duties.  Fourth in points Eric Barber takes over in the car that won last time out and the Parkersburg, West Virginia competitor will look to improve upon his finishes so far in 2025 in his Shenandoah debut.  Details are being finalized for a few more entries that intend to roll in on Saturday afternoon.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. when qualifying begins with a 45-minute fan meet and greet taking place at 6:00 p.m.  Racing festivities, including the twin main events for the Super Cup Stock Car Series as part of the prestigious Veterans Classic, are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.  Kids bike races, spectator drag races, twin races for Bandoleros, main events for Legends, Stock 4s, and Virginia Vintage Racers are all on the docket as well.
