Annual
Veterans Classic Begins 2024 Super Cup Stock Car Series Campaign
Statesville,
North Carolina (May 29, 2024) – The Super Cup Stock Car Series
will be supporting the 20th consecutive season of racing at
Shenandoah Speedway as part of the Veterans Classic’s fifth
running this Saturday. The
15th and 16th green flags at the 3/8-mile progressively-banked oval
will feature a host of racers with an
assortment of goals leading into the new season.
Brent Nelson has
been known to bookend seasons with victories.
The Petersburg, West Virginia driver has not only won the
series closer, including 2023 at Shenandoah, on three occasions, but
has won an opening event twice.
While he will look to accomplish the latter feat for the
first time since 2016 and start the campaign toward the 2024
championship on the right foot, Nelson has also been busy helping
ready for another participant’s debut.
Larry Frame, from
Yellow Spring, West Virginia, is “excited beyond words”
according to Nelson in what will be a homecoming to the Virginia
facility behind the wheel. Frame
has previously competed there across a couple different weekly
classes, most recently a couple years back.
Other surrounding
states will be represented as well, such as Ben Ebeling making the
trip from North Carolina. Ebeling,
the 2021 series champion, was absent from last year’s event, but
comes into the weekend with a six-race winning
streak when visiting the track including four Veterans Classic
trophies.
Pennsylvania’s
Bill Ashton will be back in action trying to do one better than his
runner-up result last time out, while another from the Keystone
commonwealth is Littlestown’s Jason Schue.
Schue will be in a Dale Earnhardt Tribute car that was
prepared over the offseason by past SCSCS champion JJ Pack, who has
also assisted the effort in a crew
chief and spotter role. Building
upon a banner 2023 season, Schue finished fifth in points and
concluded the year with a Shenandoah career best fifth while reeling
in on the third and fourth place cars over the closing laps.
Speaking of Pack,
the seven-time series winner is scheduled to seek his first at
Shenandoah aboard the Drive 2 Thrive ride owned by Maryland’s Rob
Hindt. He is one of two
home state racers currently signed up and finished fourth in one of
last year’s races while leading laps in the process.
This
Saturday’s festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with general admission,
consisting of Virginia Mini Cup Association and local Legends cars
competition as well, available for $20.
Feature racing starts at 6:00 p.m.
As always for this annual event, veterans and first
responders are admitted free of charge.
