Take
Number Two: SCSCS Begins
2016 on Saturday at Midvale
Mount
Joy, Pennsylvania (June 1, 2016) – After being postponed by
inclement weather in Mid-May, the drivers and teams in the Super Cup
Stock Car Series are now more than eager to start off the new season
this weekend.
Midvale Speedway in
Eastern Ohio will remain the site for the opening of the 2016
campaign for the running of the Hilltop General Store 75 presented
by Frontier Tool and Equipment Rental.
Many competitors are expected to throw their hat into the
ring, with a couple already having done their share of racing before
Saturday, June 4 comes around.
Virginia driver JJ
Pack has added his name to the list.
The 2014 SCSCS champion has already competed on a few
occasions in his home state this year in a Late Model, as recently
as Memorial Day, and has a record of finishing no worse than third
in three starts at the 3/10-mile oval.
Pack will be sharing driving duties with Tim Richardson, who
returns to the series after a few years absence, this season.
“I look forward
to going back to Midvale,” Pack noted. “I
like that the track offers good side by side racing, and I do enjoy
working with the (Cal) Richardson team.”
Pack’s two
runner-up finishes came in some exciting duels with two-time Midvale
winner Kevin Kromer, and both look to reignite their competitive but
friendly rivalry. After
the postponement in May, Kromer discovered issues with the motor and
has been scrambling to get every detail into near perfect condition
prior to leaving his hometown of Walnuport, Pennsylvania for this
weekend.
One
driver will be logging a large number of travel miles over the
weekend. Brian
Kaltreider will compete in the ARCA Racing Series event at
Pennsylvania’s Pocono Raceway on Friday and then will cross the
border to Ohio on Saturday. Not
only that, but there is potentially the chance that it will be with
the same car.
“We’ll leave
Pocono in the evening, go back to the shop, and redo the setup for
Midvale,” the driver of the No. 07 Grip Clean Ford said regarding
a to-do list that will include springs, sway bars, shocks, and a
gear change that will be made overnight.
The Reading,
Pennsylvania racer was coaxed into joining the series late in 2015
by defending series champion Dan Bainey, who worked on Brian’s
crew for a few years, and looks forward to racing alongside him some
more. A top 15 at Pocono
and a top five at Midvale will be considered a successful weekend.
“I told (Director
of Competition) Joe (Schmaling) that we’re going to run all the
races for the championship, if I can,” Kaltreider added.
The
aforementioned drivers will be joined by 2015 Midvale race winner
Larry Berg, contenders Brent Nelson, Harvey Harrison, Bill Ashton,
Stephen Cox, Kyle Kromer, Jeff Zillweger, and quite a few more as
they each look to start off a stretch of four points races in 36
days on the right foot.
Sopwith Motorsports
Television Productions of Indianapolis, which produced high quality
shows for SCSCS during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, will be on hand
filming the opening race along with several of the 2016 events.
Those productions will be showcased to a national audience at
a later date on MAVTV and LucasOilRacing.tv.
The race day
schedule remains intact as it was originally planned the prior month
with grandstands opening and the start of SCSCS practice taking
place at 3:00 p.m., qualifying at 4:45 p.m. for local divisions
followed by SCSCS, and racing beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A four hour
optional open practice session will be offered to teams early Friday
evening as well.
On Saturday morning
fans are welcome to come see SCSCS cars driven by Larry Berg and
Kevin Kromer on display and meet drivers that will be in attendance
at race presenting sponsor Frontier Tire and Equipment Rental, only
a couple miles down the road from Midvale Speedway, from 10 a.m.
until Noon.
