Pack,
reigning Super Cup Stock Car Series Champ, teaming up with Mullins
for Daytona run in ARCA’s annual Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona
Bealeton,
VA’s reigning Super Cup Stock Car Series Champion, 38-year-old
James S. Pack, Jr. is going to Daytona International Speedway in
February to race the high banked, pedal to the metal superspeedway.
Pack will be driving a car owned by Willie Mullins of
Fredericksburg, VA in the ARCA
Racing Series Presented by Menards annual Lucas Oil 200. The race
will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 channel beginning at 4:30 on
Saturday, February 14, 2015.
Pack
has a dream of competing on the superspeedways of NASCAR and has a
resume that just might work for him. He has been racing for more
than fifteen years including Super Cup Stock Car Series, NASCAR Late
Model Stock Cars, the mini-stock division at Old Dominion Speedway
(Manassas, VA), and in Go Karts years ago. He may also have a
rabbit’s foot with him.
“Daytona
lives up to the hype,” said Pack. “It
was a lot different than I thought. I have never been on a track
where I was in the throttle the whole way around and on banking that
high. We definitely met our expectations.”
Pack’s car owner,
Willie Mullins, from Fredericksburg, VA has competed at Daytona ‘s
road course. He has also competed in ARCA races in 2008, 2009, 2011,
and 2012 but only on road courses and for good reason. His business
is building full-bodied road-course cars and teams. He took his
first “turn-left-only” ride during the ARCA testing in December
at the superspeedway.
“It's
really a surreal feeling,” said Mullins.
“It's
a big jump for us, but we are more than ready. When you have the
opportunity to run Daytona, you take it. We have had a lot of help
from our friends in ARCA and we are really excited to get JJ (Pack)
behind the wheel.”
“JJ
is a very accomplished short track racer. He is the 2014 Super Cup
Stock Car Series Champion. Along with the short track racing, he is
also a road racer. We got to know him this last season when we where
both running at Summit Point. He is a great wheelman. We got talking
about us adding a super speedway program in 2015 and he was very
interested. We invited him to test with us at the open test in
December. He really impressed me. But what really separates JJ from
a lot of drivers is his ability to set up a racecar. He spent a lot
of time at the shop helping get the car ready. I really respect a
man who can work on his own car.”
Mullins’
team will be sponsored by Bugsy’s Auto and by Crow Wing Recycling.
