JJ
Pack Closes in on Super Cup Championship Going into Jennerstown
Season Finale
Skyland,
North Carolina (September 8, 2014) – The Super Cup Stock Car
Series embarks upon their final event of the 2014 season with the
running of the Flight 93 National Memorial race being held at
Jennerstown Speedway on Saturday. The
Super Cup 75-lap portion will be presented by Mignogna Collision
Center and will be a Boschett winner’s race in which a custom
Boschett Timepiece will be awarded to all former series race winners
in attendance at the post-season trophy presentation that will take
place the same evening.
One driver has set
himself apart from the competition with a nearly flawless record to
date. Bealeton,
Virginia’s JJ Pack has been racing stock cars for more than a
decade and entered his first Super Cup Stock Car Series race in
2010. Since then he has
raced on and off with the series, but in 2014 his team decided to
make a full time run for the championship.
“That’s what
our goal this year was; to win the points,” Pack said after
winning for the first time this year at CNB Bank Raceway Park in
June. “I can’t thank
Cal Richardson and the whole crew enough for doing everything to
keep this car the way it is, and we’re looking forward to a
championship this year.”
Pack paired up with
car owner Cal Richardson in 2013, and immediately started off with a
race win. Richardson has
been involved with the series since 2009 when he began fielding a
car for his son Tim. A
championship would be the first in both the owner and driver’s
Super Cup careers.
Despite winning
again at CNB last time out, Pack is looking for a little bit more at
Jennerstown after coming up short of the victory back in July.
“I love
Jennerstown,” said Pack. “I’m
really hoping to go for a win, but what’s nice is I don’t have
to drive as hard. Now I
can try a few things which I would have wanted to do anyway.”
Walnutport,
Pennsylvania’s Kevin Kromer has been extremely consistent during
the last couple seasons and still has an outside shot at the title.
After claiming the win at Midvale Speedway in early August,
Kevin knows that to have any chance he will have to go all out at
Jennerstown.
“I need to
qualify on the pole, lead the most laps, lead halfway, and win the
race,” said Kromer. “That’s
pretty much what it boils down to.”
Although 100 points
separate the top two, there are many close battles throughout the
standings to be decided by race’s end.
Lou Ansel and Jeff Zillweger are having their best Super Cup
seasons ever and are separated by only 20 markers for the fifth
spot. Both Pennsylvania
drivers had career best finishes at Jennerstown in July.
The series Rookie
of the Year title is decided as an honorary award rather than by
points; however, the top two contenders, Bill Ashton and Chris
Wenzel, are separated by 20 as well.
Ashton finished a best career fifth at the facility located
in the Laurel Highlands region of Pennsylvania while Wenzel is fresh
off two straight seventh place finishes, and both look to improve
upon their performance from July.
The battle for 10th
in the standings could shape up to go down to the wire.
Rob Morris currently holds the spot and is not expected to
compete after a hard wreck at Midvale, but July winner Codie
Rohrbaugh as well as Josh Ebbert and Kyle Kromer all have a chance
at overtaking him for a final points position in the top 10.
Additional competitors will look to make their first
appearance at the track or in the series.
The Super Cup Stock
Car Series will be a part of a big weekend to conclude
Jennerstown’s first season of weekly racing since 2008.
Practice and qualifying for the track’s local divisions
will take place on Friday night, while the Super Cup cars get their
first time on the surface at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The 75-lap feature will kick off at approximately 6 p.m.
followed by local divisions and the ARCA Truck Series.
The entire weekend will serve as a dedication to honoring the
heroes of Flight 93 who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in
nearby Stonycreek Township.
