Super
Cup Stock Car Series Makes Annual Trip to Midvale Speedway Next
Each
of the three past visits to the eastern Ohio 3/10-mile facility
known as Midvale Speedway have produced some thrilling racing and
multiple lap leaders. The
2014 running on Freeway Motorcars/Gale's Recycle It RENT-2-OWN night
should be no different.
Entering
the event, three drivers have set themselves apart as the favorites
for their first career Super Cup Stock Car Series championship.
These series veterans are separated by only 70 points with
Clearfield winner JJ Pack in the lead.
Brent Nelson won the season opener at Columbus and sits third
in points just five short of second.
Kevin Kromer turned in a strong performance the last couple
races and is in the runner up spot, looking for his first series
victory since 2012. Midvale
Speedway could definitely be the site for his return to winners
circle as he won for the first time in his career at the track in
2011.
“It’s
small, it’s fun to drive, and it’s a really nice facility,”
stated Kromer.
Based
on past statistics and amount of experience, Kevin came in as the
unofficial favorite for the title in 2014.
His competition has certainly not been a pushover; however,
he feels that they have some momentum and it’s business as usual
when they get to the race track for the 75 lap race.
“We
do that every week and try to go for the win, but we’ll see what
we’re capable of,” said Kromer. “It’s mathematically
possible, but realistically it’s going to be hard.
JJ’s just consistent and has a good car, and when Brent’s
on he’s tough. It’s
going to be what it’s going to be.”
Additionally,
drivers such as Jeff Zillweger, Bill Ashton, and Rob Morris achieved
their first career top five finishes in recent races and look to
continue that momentum back into Ohio. Harvey Harrison looks
to turn his luck around, and don’t count out drivers like Josh
Ebbert and Howie Conk who both turned heads with their fast cars
last time out at Jennerstown. There’s always the potential
for one or more other competitors to turn in a strong enough
performance that everyone talks about afterward in the Super Cup
Stock Car Series as well.
There
will be an optional open practice on Friday evening, and race day
festivities will get under way on Saturday mid-afternoon.
An on-track autograph session will be taking place for fans
to meet the drivers following qualifying.
The
full race day schedule can be viewed at www.supercupstockcarseries.com,
and updates throughout the weekend will be available on the official
Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/SCSCSRacing.
