Codie Rohrbaugh Readies for Busy Schedule in 2014 and Beyond

Skyland, North Carolina (March 26, 2014) – After a successful young career in karting, Petersburg, West Virginia’s Codie Rohrbaugh stepped up into the Super Cup Stock Car Series in 2013.  Claiming Rookie of the Year honors as a result of three top five finishes early in the season, the Grant County Mulch Racing team expands their schedule for 2014 and into the future.

In addition to a return to Super Cup, Rohrbaugh will compete full time in the CARS Pro Cup Series as well as get his feet wet at a variety of tracks in the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series in preparation for a full time run in 2015.  Their K&N schedule will begin in June at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida and take them to the larger Iowa Speedway, the Virginia International Raceway road course, and the one-mile Dover International Speedway oval in the fall.

If that isn’t enough, Rohrbaugh may also try and run some enduro races in the World Karting Association on weekends off.  Although it may take some decisions when the team crosses certain bridges when they get there with conflicting dates, Rohrbaugh looks forward to contending in every race they compete in.

“We’re going for Rookie of the Year in Pro Cup, the championship in Super Cup, and gaining more experience with crew chief Rick Ritter will be big since K&N is going to be such a big step,” Rohrbaugh said about his goals going into this season.

With a full year of Super Cup racing under his belt, Rohrbaugh feels that racing on the used tires will help going forward when it comes to tire management.

“It has helped out a lot, especially with the old tires,” Rohrbaugh said. “In Pro Cup we have to run 125 laps on the same set, so it is the biggest for sure.”

One of Codie’s crew members for his Pro Cup effort is the latest Super Cup winner and another Petersburg resident Brent Nelson.  Rohrbaugh feels like their experiences together will continue to benefit the both of them.

“Brent helps just as much as everyone else, and honestly it helps him too,” Rohrbaugh pointed out.

Nelson couldn’t agree more.

“Everything we are doing in Pro Cup and will be doing in K&N will surely help me in Super Cup. I truly believe the more you work at it the better you get, so from the schedule that we are going to have, somewhere around 24 races, I sure believe it will help. And who knows, maybe I can win another race,” Nelson said.  I enjoy working with Codie to see where it may lead him.”

Heading into Hickory Motor Speedway in April, Rohrbaugh may have a slight advantage on the competition since he has recently raced at the facility and will once again be there just two weeks before the Super Cup season opener.

“We were super super fast in the (October) Pro Cup race,” recapped Rohrbaugh.  “We went from 16th to fourth in the first 125, but had a bad set of tires in the second half.  The goal is to take the Super Cup car with us and test before the Pro Cup race.  Should be pretty decent going into it; looking forward to it.”

It will be a new Super Cup car for them this year with a new front and rear clip as well in a year that is full of exciting changes for the young driver.
