Several
Drivers Heading Home for the Hughes Motorsports 100 at Ona Speedway
presented by Xtreme Trophies
It
will be a homecoming for many this weekend at Ona Speedway with
approximately a third of the Super Cup Stock Car Series field
hailing from the state of West Virginia.
However, leading the pack when it comes to momentum will be
Pennsylvania driver and series point leader Todd Peck.
The
Peck Motorsports team won the last time out at CNB Bank Raceway Park
and recently competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race
at Kentucky Speedway. Peck
also has the record of being a two-time winner at the historic 7/16
mile oval in his favor as well, taking the victory in 2008 and 2010.
On
the other end of the spectrum, Harrison’s Motorsports is looking
to turn their season around in a big way at their home track.
Harvey Harrison won the race at Ona in 2012, but has not
finished better than seventh in 2013.
Harvey’s son Brian has been fast at every race, but cannot
seem to catch a break. Brian
has yet to run at the finish of a Super Cup race this season.
Team
owner Summer Harrison remains optimistic that this will be their
best result so far this season.
“Despite
having a rough season so far I really believe that our Harrison's
Motorsports team will rebound this weekend. There's no doubt that
dad (Harvey) and Brian have more laps around this track than anyone
else. We should be the favorite no matter how this season has gone
so far.”
Additional
West Virginia drivers look to break through with a win or strong
showing at the end of 100 laps on Saturday night.
Jody Harrison is always a contender no matter what track the
series visits, but has never visited victory lane in four tries at
Ona. Jody currently sits
second in the standings, only 21 points behind Peck.
Veteran
Brent Nelson from Petersburg, West Virginia has been through an up
and down season, but returns to one of the tracks in which he holds
his best career finish of fourth.
Current top rookie Codie Rohrbaugh, who also calls Petersburg
home, hopes to shake off his first DNF of the season last time out
and break through for his first career win.
These
and more storylines will present themselves starting Saturday
afternoon when the cars hit the track for practice.
Prior to the running of the Hughes Motorsports 100 at Ona
Speedway presented by Xtreme Trophies, there will be an on track
autograph session for fans.
There
will be many fans of the aforementioned drivers in attendance, and
Summer Harrison summed up what it means to their family’s team.
“This
is where Brian got his start racing Late Models and where my dad won
a championship before moving to Super Cup. Most of the tracks we run
on this circuit are at least four to six hours from our home town of
Renick, West Virginia so it makes it tough for our friends, family
and fans to get out to the track to see us.
With Ona being in our back door it gives everyone a chance to
come out and support us and it just makes it that much more special
to get a win as the home team.”
