Tough Week of Prep Nets SCSCS Veteran Kevin Kromer Second Career Win with Motordrome Speedway Checkers

Kevin Kromer won the Ansel's Tire Outlet Super 50 at Motor Drome Speedway and notched his second career win in Super Cup competition.  Kromer Motorsports decided to send two cars to MDS, one for Kevin and one for son Kyle.  The plan was to finish Kyle's #52 car on Tuesday night and then put the final touch to the # 77 car on Wednesday evening. As plans go, this was a good one, no rushing, no panic, plenty of time to check everything, Kevin knows that preparation is the key to success.

Wednesday night was coming along right on schedule, all that needed to be checked was the engine in Kevin's #77 before loading up for Motor Drome.  During the warm up the engine suffered a broken camshaft.   Although separated by only four points n the standings, following J.J. Pack's engine failure at Ona, KMS had offered to postpone Kyle's debut to permit Pack to start the car for points.  Kyle would be making his first start and points weren't near as important as seat time.

Now KMS was down a powerplant however without hesitation, Peck Motorsports, offered Kromer the use of one of their engines.  Now race prep included a trip half way across the state and back on Thursday so the engine could be installed that night. Some time well after midnight the car was ready to be put in the trailer for the five hour drive to MDS.  A week of drama and an early start for race day, Kromer ended with a well deserved victory.

Two-time champion Jody Harrison would capture the pole award but Kromer lined his # 77 from the outside of the front row.  Once the green dropped Kromer never gave up the top spot, leading every lap in route to his first win of the year and the second in the series.

Isn't just great when a plan comes together. Another example of "Racin' the way it used be".

Other notes of interest from the race:  Camping World Truck Series driver Norm Benning came by to check out the Super Cup series and indicated he may be fielding a car as early as Midvale in August.
