2008 Rookie of the Year Award

Skyland, North Carolina (November 21, 2008) - During a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Super Cup Stock Car Series (SCSCS) in preparation for the 2009 season, we still had unfinished business from the 2008 season, in particular the awards handed out for competitors for their 2008 accomplishments.

Due to the change in our Hickory Race date, the cancellation of Sunday’s banquet, and then the rush to vote on awards that were deemed honorary, we have decided that for 2008, the Super Cup Stock Car Series will have two Rookie of the Year Champions!
The two recipients of the award are Jody Harrison and Megan Reitenour.

Both rookies stood out in their achievements during the 2008 season. Jody Harrison, until 2008, had worked diligently as crew chief for his father, Joe Harrison III, in the ProCup division. The creation of the Super Cup division provided Jody the opportunity to experience a life long dream of driving a race car. At 32 years old, many would have given up on this dream. Not Jody! With the roles reversed, and Joe Harrison III serving as crew chief, the Renick, WV team combined for an impressive 4th place finish in the 2008 points championship. Highlights included a WIN at Coeburn, VA, and a pole at the final race at Hickory, NC. His final season stats included 4 top 5’s and 8 top 10’s. Jody exemplifies the spirit of the Super Cup division as well as the Rookie of the Year award!

The second recipient of the honorary award goes to 17 year old Megan Reitenour of Miamisburg, OH. 2008 marked the first season of competition in full bodied stock cars for Megan. Her years of racing experience since the early age of 5 were put to the test with the new Super Cup series. Megan answered the challenge. She recorded a series leading 3 wins in 2008. Megan opened the season with a victory in Tri-County Speedway, NC and finished the year with a victory at Hickory, NC. In addition, she won at Kil-Kare, OH. Combined with the three victories were two poles at Kil-Kare and Newport, TN. Final stats included 9 top 5 finishes 10 top 10 finishes in 10 races. These accomplishments allowed her to finish second in the season championship by a mere 7 points to young hot shoe, Ryan Miller.

SCSCS would like to congratulate both Jody Harrison and Megan Reitenour as 2008 Super Cup Stock Car Series Rookie of the Year Champions! The 2008 season was the first for the Super Cup Stock Car Series, and we may be the first to have co-champions as the Board of Directors feel that both of these Champions are well deserving of their accomplishments.
